This is just too funny to not create its own entry about. In my previous post, I mentioned a story about going to the U.S. Open last week:
…If you happened to be at the Hewitt-Gasquet match that night or catch it on TV, you may have noticed that during the later sets, there was only one ballgirl in the group of ballpeople on the court. You may have also noticed that the crowd seemed to enjoy her presence, as indicated by the whistles and hollers any time she chased down a ball. You may have noticed that after one point, the ball ended up in no-man’s land and she zig-zagged across the court, unsure of whether or not she should be the one to chase it down. You may have heard someone break the silence between whistles by shouting “You can do it!!!!” That would be me. I was that guy.
To continue the story, I was also one of two or three guys that yelled “Boooo” at one of the ball boys when he beat the ball girl to an errant ball and scooped it up before she could. In short, any time she moved around the court, the (male) crowd reacted. Apparently, all this ball girl attention (everyone, not just me) proved to be too much and the powers that be decided to pull her out of the match and replace her with another guy.
Yes, I was one of many that booed the replacement.
A few minutes later, as kind of a “screw-you-USTA-we’re-still-gonna-make-this-fun” statement, a bunch of people (including myself) started cheering for the guys at the net, too.
Anyway, earlier today, I noticed that someone had found my website by Googling photo of ball girl in hewitt-gasquet match (I’m currently the 4th result). I thought it was hilarious that someone out there was actually looking for pictures of her. I’m sorry that I disappointed him.
Another friend of mine (not a lie, I’d tell you if it was actually me), noticing my update from earlier today, did some creative searching on Google (any combination of Hewitt, Gasquet, ball, and girl). Turns out there are actually a number of different message boards and sites that discuss that night (Even the NYTimes US Open blog gets in on it, on a much more asinine level). Among all that, my friend actually found some pictures:

She’s pretty cute. Sure, she looks a little young, but you know, whatever.
