September is an interesting month. It brings with it a wide assortment of experiences and a grab bag of emotions.
September brings celebration- my birthday falls in the first week, and as was the case this year, I stretch the festivities out as long as possible. September brings apprehension- previously it meant starting a new year of college; now it means the start of yet another ‘busy season’ at work. September brings confusion- the weather fluctuates from hot to cold and back, while we try to decide whether we’re ready for Fall yet. September brings depression, angst, and mourning- the tragic events from 5 years ago still fresh in our minds.
Also…for the six years that I have been a Michigan fan, September has brought a feeling of anticipation, an eagerness for the start of a top-ranked football team’s season. And for five of those years, September has brough feelings of disappointment and resentment, with the hopes of a great football season brought down a notch by a loss far too early in the season. A road opener loss. Every September for the last five years.
This September was different. You’ve heard it all by now. A shitty seven-win season last year. A coach who everyone was doubting. Sure we looked good in our first two weeks, home games against bullshit teams. But fucking a, we knew the road opener was coming. Notre Dame, the #2 ranked team in the country was coming. September didn’t bring anticipation this year. It brought uncertainty, nervousness, and a lack of confidence. I was speechless around Notre Dame coworkers, any smack-talking I made lacking any real conviction. I couldn’t even bring myself to bet on the game, worried that I would be handing over easy money.
But then it happened. 41 seconds into the game, Michigan took the lead. ESPN and others can fill you in on the rest of the details, but 59 minutes and 19 seconds later, September brought euphoria. “Holy shit, 47 to 21? I can’t believe what just happened but goddamnit, screw you for doubting us, we fucking rolled over Notre Dame” euphoria.
It’s great.
To be.
A Michigan Wolverine.
I wake up every morning and that’s one of the first thoughts on my mind. I’ve probably used ‘Hail to the Victors’ in about 37 emails since Saturday. I’m counting down the days, (1.75 at the time of this sentence) until I get in a friend’s car and road trip my way to a city overflowing with pride, to a weekend that will no doubt be memorable.
September has brought me one of the best birthday gifts ever.

September also brought back television. Its time for my DVR’s Series Manager to kick back in, with a few new names to be added to the list.
How I Met Your Mother, my guilty pleasure, was great last night. The show is a cheesy (perhaps overplayed) portrayal of twenty-somethings in New York. But I’m a cheesy twenty-something in New York myself, so I find it hilarious. Plus, one of the characters even has a blog. Awesome.
CBS also debuted a new sitcom, The Class, last night. My first impression was favorable. I’m curious to see what storylines will develop. Plus there’s a few cute chicks on the show, including the girl who played Janice (the purple-haired girl) in Mean Girls. Yeah, believe it or not, she actually looks hot in this show. Enough to get me watching for at least one more week.
Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip…I love this show already. Matthew Perry (Chandler) and Bradley Whitford (Josh) were my two favorite characters on Friends and The West Wing, respectively, and they’re great together on this show. Also, I may have a crush on Amanda Peet. But seriously, I love the plot behind this show and I was entertained for a solid hour. I’m pretty sure this is a keeper.
Grey’s Anatomy starts on Thursday. I am ashamed that I can’t get enough of this show. Related side story:
Suraj, Rishi, Sachin and I are standing outside Giants Stadium, drinking beers before the Jets game on Sunday.
Sachin: So guys, I’m thinking of having a Grey’s Anatomy Party on Thursday.
Rishi: On the big screen?!
Suraj: I’m so there.
Amish: Jesus Christ dudes, we’re drinking beers outside a football game. Can you not be so un-manly right now? [secretly disappointed that my decision to ride along in a car instead of flying to Ann Arbor means that I will have to wait until Monday to watch the premiere]
So yeah, don’t talk to me about this show until next Monday. Seriously? Seriously.

Lastly (but hopefully not least), September has brought milestones. This post is the 200th post in this blog. The ‘blicentennial.’
Its been a fun couple hundred posts, so thanks for reading, especially all you strangers that have started showing up in the last few months, and a double especially to all of you that have linked me. I appreciate all of your daily visits and comments, even the insulting or unfunny ones.
(Note: I refuse to apologize for any insulting or unfunny things I have written on this blog. Why? Because they don’t exist.)
Anyway, since I’ve reached this milestone, I thought I’d revise my ‘Greatest Hits.’ The links on the left are some of my favorites, but I have no clue whether or not you feel the same way. Let me know what you think…
