Heading to Vegas in a few minutes, but before I get to that, a few other things of note from the last week:
Black Eye
Mostly healed now. Never quite perfected a great fake battle story to tell about it (since the real version of the story, where I am on the losing end of a one-sided battle, is quite embarrassing). I spent a week working from home so I could avoid coworkers while it healed. Unfortunately, I was finally summoned back into the office yesterday before it was fully healed, and NO ONE EVEN NOTICED (or at least no one said anything!). Actually, it came up while I was having drinks with some colleagues, and I accidentally let the real story slip to one of them. She’s pretty reliable though, so I think I can trust her to follow my instructions of “If anyone at work asks about it tomorrow, tell them it happened at a football game.”
Be, by Mayumana
I saw a great off-broadway show last week called Be. Anyone who’s a fan of Stomp, Blue Man Group, or Groove (a group I helped start at Michigan) should check this out. Its a mix of all that ‘novelty percussion’ type music plus other high energy rhythm and dancing stuff. Very entertaining!
Snow Patrol
I scored a free ticket to see Snow Patrol last night at Madison Square Garden (Theater), thanks to a coworker who was shipped out of town and couldn’t go. I’ll have to admit, I was really impressed. This is one of those bands whose bandwagon everyone seemed to jump on around when Chasing Cars came out, but for some reason, I neglected to get on. I literally had no knowledge about their music (other than the aforementioned song) before last night, so I was expecting an hour of slow, overly dramatic, emo’d out, whiny songs, but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The show and music (melodies and lyrics I can no longer remember) were a lot more energetic and fast-paced than I expected, the lead singer (whose name I still do not know) was funny, and the band kept the energy in the venue going through their whole set. They’re a great live band.
OK Go opened for them, and since I’m actually a fan of theirs, I was really looking forward to their set. Unfortunately, though they played great, the crowd didn’t really get into it, at least not until they played “Here It Goes Again” (the treadmill dance song).
Viva Las Vegas
I’m leaving in about 10 minutes for a 5 day vacation + bachelor party in Vegas. And while my pants are bulging with excitement (because I just hit up the ATM for gambling money, you sick fuck), I am unfortunately coming down with a bit of a sore throat.
I have never fought so hard against something in my life. So far today, I have consumed: 2 Airborne pills, 2 Green Teas (one with honey and cinnamon), 10-15 gargles of salt water, and 3.14*10^8 Luden’s throat drops. I haven’t quite kicked the soreness yet, but I think I’m close.
I’ll be M.I.A. until at least Monday (when I get back), after which I may or may not blog about the trip (depending on what stories I’m allowed to share). Since this trip includes a bachelor party, including many close friends from college who I rarely see, there’s a chance I may not come out alive.
